The monsoon rains pouring in India from June to September are very important for farmers whose crops feed the millions of people. Floods - an annual phenomenon in the northeastern part of the country during the rainy season, and in mid-July, rains cause the river Brahmaputra in Guwahati to leave its banks and flooding dozens of villages in the remote northeastern state of Assam.
