*LIFE IN COLOUR*_* BROWN part 1   Natural and earthy, brown's warm tones are familiar in nature—think of rough tree bark, fluid mudflows, and dense animal fur.. The color, which represents wholesomeness and earthiness, also shows up in man-made goods from clothing to chocolate.     Vicuñas dwell in the high-altitude grasslands of the South American Andes. Demand for vicuña meat and wool nearly wiped out the species, but many enjoy protection in Peru's Pampa Galeras Reserve, such as this trio.   An elderly nun negotiates stairs at Tibet's Tidrum Nunnery. The remote site draws pilgrims who hope to bathe in hot springs that are renowned for their healing abilities.   Palm trees emerge from the morning mist in the Pantanal near Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. This enormous landlocked river delta forms an ecologically diverse wetland ecosystem in parts of Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay.   A chocolatier uses decorative accents to create a sweet that pleases both the eye and the palate. These gourmet chocolates are from Godiva Chocolatiers in Brussels, Belgium.    Group of storks gathers to forage on a muddy Costa Rican riverbed. The Tempisque River Basin showcases many of Costa Rica's diverse ecosystems, from high-altitude cloud forests to lowland swamps and marshes.   These three white-faced whistling ducks are residents of the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, South Dakota. In the wild, however, their relatives inhabit the warmer climes of Central and South America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa.
