Nidokidos: July 2010

Based on recently revised estimates, BP's ruptured oil well at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico continues to leak 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil a day. The new figures suggest that an amount of oil equivalent to the Exxon Valdez disaster could still be flowing into the Gulf of Mexico every 8 to 10 days. Despite apparent efforts to restrict journalists from accessing affected areas, stories, video and photographs continue to emerge. Collected here are recent photographs of oil-affected wildlife, people and shorelines around the Gulf of Mexico on this, the 51st day after the initial explosion.

Though this quirky program lets you create and display prank messages on your desktop, it's light on assistance. Getting up and running is the first hurdle. Right-clicking DrWindows' system tray icon brings up a mini menu that doesn't let you into the program. The help file reveals that to access the small interface, you'll need to hit Ctrl and right-click the tray icon, and an additional option to configure settings is then offered. Once you're in, the program comes with 56 amusing dialogs that mimic standard Windows messages, complete with icons and sound effects. It can be set to begin at start-up and display at specific time intervals or with a user-defined hot key. Although it claims that you can create your own messages, its help file doesn't provide guidance on how to do so. In the end, DrWindows' tricky scheme injects some good, clean humor into those dreary workdays free of charge. Dr.Windows is a joke program that displays funny fake windows error messages at random times. They look just like the real windows error messages you know and love except they are funnier. You can use it to play tricks on people. Make your own custom dialogs and share them with the world.
